Dinosaur bone used in jewelry  is actually called gembone. Gembone has been described as one of the  most rare and beautiful fossils in the world. A gembone is the fossil of  an animal bone that contains gem quality minerals. The different colors  and very unique pattern in gembones are caused by minerals such as  chlorite, chromium, iron-oxide and manganese that enter the cells during  formation. Gembone is also commonly referred to as mineralized dinosaur  bone, silicified dinosaur bone and agatized fossil. These gembone  specimens can be traced back to dinosaurs that roamed the earth around  65-150 million years ago!

Gembone is only found in a few places in North America, including Hell's Creek Montana, and from the Morrison Formation in Utah. While dinosaur bones can be found on every continent the beautiful Gembone that we use in our jewelry is only found in this magical four corners area.

Because of the unique and rare colors and patterns found in these  fossils, and the very slim odds of a dinosaur bone not only becoming a  fossil, but also being fossilized with gem quality minerals, gembone  have earned recognition as the “World’s Greatest Treasure”. Wear that  treasure with pride!
